In the cause and effect essay, Drugs, Sports, Body Image and G.I.Joe, I never realized that boys would or could suffer from the idea of having a poor body image. It just seems that society puts more of the focus on women, especially young girls and teens.
In the writing suggestions for a blog it asks that we be honest about whether or not we would change something about our bodies and why. So here it goes. I would absolutely love to get a tummy tuck. After having three kids. I find that I don't have the desire to exercise daily, while watching everything I eat, just so I can be picture perfect thin. Okay, so I would love to be back to my pre-pregnancy weight, but that's probably true for most women. I'm not a large person, but I am over weight in respects to my height but at 5'1 anything over 135lbs is considered heavy.
So why not develop a drug that helps us grow a few inches instead of losing them? I would buy that drug, simple because I wouldn't have such a difficult time finding pants. Usually my jeans have to be shortened and my capri's are more like high-waters. If only I was 5'3 or 5'4, awe but I'm not so for now I will continue to except who I am right now. I will continue to make good choice in my diet and exercise but I'm not going to be slim like a model----it's genetically impossible.

My writing process
I find that I still moan and groan when ever I am faced with an writting assignment. That's probably why I have the job that I have. It doesn't require a lot of writing. As a student I still find myself wanting to put off my writing assignments till the last possible moment but that usually generates a lot of undo stress. So now that I'm a bit older and understant that putting things off to the last possible moment is not good for me or my family. I have decided to approach the writing process like I approach cleaning the bathroom. I just get in there and do it. And when I'm done I get to sit back and relax, checking off one more thing from the top of my list of thing to do.
My paper was focusing on the possiblity of the U.S. reinstating compulsory service. I believe that young men and women would benefit from the experience. It would help give direction to those who don't have any idea what they want to do with their future. It would provide them with a steady paycheck and plenty of opportunity to travel. I enjoyed my time I spent as a soldier as did my husband. I don't think I would have ever had the money or opportunity to travel to Germany, Spain, or Japan if I hadn't served. Not mention all the states I have lived or taveled too; Seattle, Alaska, Texas, Phoenix and the list goes on. It would probably be better to tell of the States that I haven't been then the States that I have.

Logical Fallacies
The one that bugged me most as a kid was when my mom would say "because I said so". What does that mean? I found that to be the most frustrating, unproductive phrase used in my youth. Funny thing is I have found myself saying that to my kids only to retract the statement and insert a more logical response like "because we have plans" which we do; or "because you had that yesterday", which they did.
I have also heard in my life, "stop your crying or I'll give you something to cry about", "don't make a mountain out of a mole hill", and "you can't have your cake and eat it too". I do believe that at on time or another I have also said these things to my kids. I look forward to the day when I will hear these fallacies or others like them when my kids are parents.

Finally
So we are coming to the end of the semester and I must say, Thank Goodness!!! I have dreaded the semester that I had to take an English class. Now I just have to wait to see if I'm repeating or passing. Eeek.
Nontheless, it's almost over. I have decided to take only two classes this summer. this decision will extend me another semester next year but that's okay.
Traveling soccer has offically started and I'm really excited to be sitting on the side lines once again cheering on my son and his team. Now if only the weather would cooperate.
It's been fun but I'm not a fan of blogging, simply because I don't like spending a lot of time in front of the computer. The one benefit of a crumby Spring is that I can't blame nice weather from keeping me away from the computer, I just lack the desire.
Have a wonderful summer to everyone. Let's hope and pray that the weather will be better soon. I would really like to float a river or two this summer.

Time to read
I wish I had time to read more. I used to spend the whole summer reading when I was younger. Now I'm lucky if I can sit down long enough to read the funnies in the Sunday paper. Eek!
When I do get a chance to read it is usually text books.
Now that I'm a mom, my reading time is limited. One would think that as your kids get older you would have time to read more. Not even close. It seems that every time I pick up a book or magazine my kids decide that at that moment they want to have a conversation with me. Doesn't matter that I just spent the last two hours watching them play with their friends. Don't get me wrong, I would drop a good book for my kiddo, just as soon as I finish the paragraph. :0)
When I was in High School my favorite author was Stephen King. I like the suspence and eeriness of most of his novels. My favorite series was the Drawing of the Three I read the first three then it took so long for the next one I never got back to finish. It was the novel Dolores Claiborne that made me look for other authors for nighttime or anytime reading for that matter.
My mom introduced me to the author Sidney Sheldon---Love, love, love his books... I started with Rage of Angels and continued till I read almost everyone of his novels. In fact, I have most of them on my book shelf now.
I look forward to the days when I can pick-up a good book again. When that day comes maybe I will find a new author to spark my desire to continue to the next chapter.

Is college necessary?
After reading the essay in Chapter 9; The Case Against College. I wonder if pushing for my kids to go to college is really necessary. I'm not saying I don't want them to go but maybe going to a Technical school or a local college can be just as rewarding as an Ivy league college.
I joined the Military after high school because I knew I wasn't college material. I wanted an adventure, not more schooling. Besides, I didn't know what I wanted to be when I grew up anyway. I spent three years in the Army and was granted an early-out because I didn't like my new job.
It wasn't until I had my first child that I realized I needed more than a minimum wage job. I needed something that would get me in to the work force sooner than a traditional college would. So I went to a Technical college where I spent 18 months learning how to be a Surgical Tech. It was the right choice for me because taking classes that have nothing to with the job seemed useless and was not cost effective. I received my Associates Degree and got a really good job making enough money to take care of my son.
Now I'm back in school for another Associates degree in HIT (Health Information Technology), I don't mind the classes that actually teach me the necessary information for the job. But having to repeat English, General Psych and some of the other elective courses are ridiculous! I enjoy taking classes because I'm learning something new, but only the ones that I know will help me in my career field.
My husband and I want our kids to strive for a college degree in hopes that they will have a successful future. I hope when that time comes we will be able to help encourage them to do what's right for them. To help guide them in the direction that would best suit them whether it's a 4 year college, a Technical trade school, or joining the Military, we what them to be happy and enjoy discovering all that the world has to offer.

Spring Break?
I am very excited to see that days getting longer and the temperture rising. Thank goodness Spring is near!
I wish I could say that it has been a relaxing Spring Break but it hasn't been. My kids don't go on break for another week or two so in reality my "Spring Break" is just like any other week. In the last week and a half, I have found that the only thing I don't have time for is homework. I have spent a large percent of my time working overtime!!! Yuck! Its a good thing for Spring break because school work would be suffering greatly. So I am greatful that Spring break is now. I only hope that the rest of the school year won't be interrupted by longer work days and that I am able to keep up with the demands of work, school and family.

What is dysfunctional?
We all have our own idea a dysfunctional family, but what is dysfunctional? Is it only for the ones who suffer from abuse, drug and alcohol addictions or someone with a mental illness. What about the ones that have a family member who is controlling, a yeller, or not involved emotionally put there physically?
I think dysfunctional is in the eye of the beholder. We might base our decision on how we were brought up and if everything was good in our family, then anything less than that could be considered dysfunctional. How about someone who comes from an abusive family, what would they see as dysfunctional?
I think that every family has some dysfunctional areas but not all are extreme and noticeable. What we see on the outside can be different from what really goes on at home.

I wish I had
What I envy the most right now in my life it the people who I have met since moving here in Rochester that have been here forever. The ones who have established life long friendships. Who have immediate and extended family with in a few hours of here. Those are the lives that I envy.
Why you might ask? Well for the last 20 years of my life I have been the one living an exciting life, always on the go, traveling overseas life style. Now I'm in the process of settling down (if you will) and having to establish a more settled lifestyle. It's hard being the new kid on the block especially at my age. Not that I'm old.. but I'm older and I've had a lot of experiences than most.
I was a stay-at-home-mom for five of those years and getting involved was a lot easier. Now I work full time, take classes part time and transport kids to their activites. So establishing friendships have been rather difficult, not impossible, but difficult. It's a lonely season in my present life and that has been difficult to accept. Being busy is hard but I know in time I will have what all the other people around me have and that will be life long friendships. (I hope)
Provided I don't have to move again!!!!

Old school
I have a My Space page and a Facebook page but I never go on unless someone has posted something on my wall or to look at photos of family who live far away. It's nice to keep in touch that way but I don't have time to sit around and play farm animal game.
I don't have my Facebook open to the public to see but I do find it unnerving that there are ways for others to get into it if they want to. Security is a big deal especially when it comes to computers. I don't want to leave anything to chance that someone would cause harm to me or my family because I said the wrong thing on-line.
I spend very little time on the computer and don't have any interest in Blogging, Twittering, or Facebooking. Its impersonal and leaves you wondering if the person on the other end is really who they say they are.
I'm not that old but I am old school, meaning I still prefer to talk in person or over the phone. It's more personal and you're able to tell how the other person is feeling.

Where does my inspiration come from...
It comes from the Bible. From the Ten Commandments in Deuteronomy giving me guidelines to live by. Psalms is filled with poems and prayers to help me deal with the emotional ups and downs of life. Proverbs is filled with practical wisdom that can help me deal with everyday problems. No matter what book I read in the Bible there is practical application for my life now and a promise that I am not alone. I can not think of another book that has brought me so much peace in my life.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3: 5-6

Not sure if I'm doing this right.
Okay so I have never blogged before. I feel completely out of place and I don't have the time to sit at the computer to figure it all out. Eeekk!! The most I spend on the computer is to check e-mail, do assignments and maybe respond to an old facebook message. So bare with me as I try and figure some of this out.
I am busy like everybody else. I work full time and my hours vary with occasional over-time. I take a couple classes each semester working towards my Health Information Technology degree. Hoping for a job that works M-F, 8 to 5. Although I do like my occasional weekends just to get away from the politics of the normal work week. I need steady hours so that I can focus on my kids in the evening. Did I mention I have three? Anybody out there who has a couple know that this is a full time job all by it's self. So for me to be home in the evening is important because I am their official taxi service. My husband helps too but it never fails that two need to be somewhere at the same time and never in the same location. Busy, Busy.
I have enjoyed taking classes and hope to continue even after getting my degree. Why? I like learning new things maybe I need to focus more on learning how to making my computer my friend rather than refer to as being a nuisance.
